National Records, Archives Authority Organises Forum

Salalah: On Monday, the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate hosted a forum called "Archival Experiences".

More than 230 individuals from 110 government departments are attending the three-day workshop, which is being hosted by the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) in Salalah.

Dr. Hamad Mohammed Al Dhoyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA), emphasized that document management is an essential aspect of institutional activities.

According to Al Dhoyani, document management is critical because it preserves, organizes, and retrieves information.

He observed that the NRAA places tremendous emphasis on document management and has hence developed separate departments and sections staffed with skilled people.

Al Dhoyani stated that the forum is part of a series of efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration and knowledge exchange among the relevant bodies.

He stated that the primary goal is to stay current with developments in archival practices and raise the standards of personnel working in this profession across numerous branches of the State's Administrative Apparatus, government corporations, and private organizations.

For his part, Ahmed Saif Al Kiyumi, Director of the NRAA's Follow-up and Technical Support Department, believes that the conference is a significant step toward establishing a culture of discussion and experience sharing.

He said that the forum serves as a platform for offering training, discussing development possibilities, and showcasing the Authority's position as a reliable national source for institutional knowledge management.

The event's agenda includes a session called "Electronic Systems and Digital Transition," which will feature seminars on the use of current technology in document management.

The program presents the "Excellence Award" (for the best applications in document management and digital transition) and highlights the experience of the Omani platform "Thiqa".

Other topics to be discussed during the forum sessions include the creation and implementation of document management systems, academic experiences in the sector, document sorting mechanisms and digitization initiatives, as well as connecting digital documentation with physical documentation.

The forum's sessions will also analyze local and foreign experiences, as well as methods for improving knowledge and efficiency in the area of documentation, and will look at ways to increase future collaboration among organizations working in the documentation sector.
