Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCiT) convened its 12th media meeting to discuss the implementation plan for 2025 and review the accomplishments of 2024. During this session, His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud bin Saeed Al Mawali, the Minister of Transport, Communications & Information Technology, announced that the Muscat Metro project will connect Sultan Haitham City to the Ruwi area.
The minister indicated that the metro line will extend over 50 kilometers and feature 36 stations. He also revealed that a comprehensive study of the Muscat Metro project is set to commence this year.
His Excellency emphasized that the logistics and ICT sectors contributed more than 2 billion Omani Rials to the GDP, accounting for 8%. By the end of 2024, investments in these sectors reached 2.5 billion Omani Rials. Expenditures on development projects amounted to 989 million Omani Rials, with 93% dedicated to road infrastructure. Additionally, the number of change orders saw a 42% reduction compared to 2020.
Minister Al Mawali pointed out that Oman made significant progress in various international indices related to transportation, communications, and ICT in 2024. The country ranked 41st in the global e-government development index, 45th in the government's AI readiness index, and 50th in the network readiness index. Oman achieved the first category in the global cybersecurity index and is currently ranked 4th worldwide for aviation incident investigations.
