Ministry Of Information Information To Organise Evolutionary Workshop On Tackling Social Media

Muscat: The Ministry of Information is set to host a workshop titled "Towards a National Framework for Dealing with Social Media," focusing on the evolving landscape of digital communication.

Scheduled to take place over two weeks starting Sunday, 16 February 2025, this workshop is being organized in collaboration with the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit and various relevant departments.

This initiative is inspired by the Royal address of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, which emphasized the collective responsibility of families and society in nurturing children within the context of social media.

The workshop builds upon a previous program initiated by the Ministry of Information, which aimed to involve academics, researchers, educators, media professionals, and specialists in conducting pertinent research and surveys in partnership with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

A collaborative team from the Ministry of Information, the Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, and other relevant departments has crafted a strategic plan that includes specific goals, algorithms, and challenges aligned with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040. This team has also analyzed an initial array of projects and initiatives and engaged with various government departments to gain deeper insights into ongoing efforts.

The workshop is anticipated to generate several initiatives and programs that will be executed by the appropriate authorities, aiming to promote the positive aspects of social media while mitigating its negative effects on society.
