MUSCAT: Oman is set to celebrate the fifth anniversary of its Renaissance Day with a remarkable event featuring a renowned international artist who aims to secure a place in the Guinness Book of World Records through a painting marathon.
Iranian artist Mahnoush Abbasgholy, also known as Mia, will embark on an ambitious project to create a 40-meter (40mts x 120cms) artwork over the course of seven days. She plans to dedicate more than 15 hours each day to this endeavor, totaling over 100 hours of painting, with the goal of achieving a world record.
Sparkles of Oman
This innovative live event, titled ‘Sparkles of Oman’, will take place at the Al Bandar lawn area of Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah from January 15 to 21. The residents of Oman are encouraged to attend this momentous occasion, which aims to showcase the Sultanate of Oman on a global stage.
A Radiant Tribute to Oman
The ‘Sparkles of Oman’ painting will reflect the enchanting landscapes, urban lights, beaches, and mountains of Oman, offering a luminous portrayal of the country's natural beauty, culture, and heritage. “This will be a vibrant exploration of the Sultanate’s stunning scenery through contemporary art, incorporating gold and silver leaf to enhance the textures and colors,” Abbasgholy stated. “It will serve as a radiant tribute to Oman through the medium of art,” she added.
Once completed, the painting will be auctioned to support the non-governmental organization, Children First Association.
Royal Patronage
The grand event will commence with its opening ceremony on January 15 at 10:30 AM, held under the esteemed patronage of Sayyid Khalid bin Hamed bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, chairman of the Sabco group of companies, alongside Sheikh Ahmed bin Suwaidan Al Balushi, chairman of Al Balushi Investments.
The closing ceremony is scheduled for January 22 at 5:30 PM, also under the patronage of Her Highness Dr. Mona bint Fahad Al Said, assistant vice chancellor for external cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University and chairperson of the Children First Association, in addition to Sheikh Ahmed bin Suwaidan Al Balushi.
Celebrating 20 Years of Hospitality
This remarkable art-for-charity event is taking place at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, which, along with Shangri-La Al Husn, celebrates two decades of outstanding hospitality in the Sultanate of Oman.
A painting by artist Abbasgholy will be auctioned to support the Children First Association, reflecting Shangri-La’s dedication to meaningful community involvement, as noted by a senior hotel official.
Over the last twenty years, Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah has established itself as a beloved family resort offering vibrant experiences, while Shangri-La Al Husn provides a peaceful sanctuary for adults seeking luxury and relaxation. As part of their year-long anniversary festivities, Sparkles of Oman sets the stage for a series of exciting events and exclusive promotions throughout the year.
“It is a privilege to host an event that benefits the community, with the proceeds from the painting auction directed to the Children First Association,” stated Philippe Kronberg, the general manager of the resort.
We are excited to back this Guinness World Record attempt and to launch our 20th anniversary celebrations with an initiative that not only motivates but also contributes to the community. Shangri-La has consistently played a central role in Oman’s dynamic cultural and social events, and we take pride in starting the year with a cause that spreads joy and hope to children,” Kronberg stated.
