Gaza: The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that Gaza is experiencing the worst degree of famine, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, with thousands of people at risk of dying from starvation.
According to a statement released today, Gaza residents are suffering severe food shortages, with some going days without eating and others dying from severe weakness or organ collapse.
Children with acute malnutrition, it emphasized, are especially vulnerable to death if not treated immediately.
The statement underlined that Gaza's healthcare system is unable to operate properly due to a critical scarcity of medical supplies and fuel, which is exacerbating the misery of both patients and healthcare professionals.
The organisation warned that recovery from malnutrition requires months of specialized medical treatment and therapeutic feeding, and that some outcomes, such as restricted growth and chronic health issues, may be irreversible.
The WHO demanded the immediate and unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid, including food and medicine, through all viable ways. It asked Israel to enable the delivery of aid and guarantee its safe and rapid transit to save lives and alleviate civilian suffering. The organisation also renewed its request for a ceasefire.
