Ibri: According to the Department of Heritage and Tourism, a rescue excavation in the A'Dhahirah Governorate unearthed archaeological artifacts in the Al-Sabikhi region of the Wilayat of Ibri.
According to Waleed Awad Al Ghafri, an Archaeology Specialist with the Department of Heritage and Tourism in A'Dhahirah Governorate, the survey and excavation work has uncovered 25 archaeological graves dating back to the third century BC.
The diggings also uncovered the remains of skeleton buildings and intact pottery vases within the burial chambers, some of which were brought from Mesopotamia's Jemdet Nasr culture. In addition, beads fashioned of rock and shell from the Bronze Age were found.
He stated that a group of experts and archaeology professionals from both within and outside the Sultanate of Oman is handling the found antiques in accordance with established processes in order to prepare them for study and preservation.
These findings emphasize the archaeological site's tremendous relevance in elucidating Oman's civilizational extent and cultural contacts with surrounding civilizations at the time. This adds to the worth of Oman's cultural legacy and helps to the development of historical knowledge.
