Date Peeling Season Begins In A Number Of Wilayats Of Oman

Manah: Date peeling, or Tabsil in Arabic, for the production of Al Faghour, a local delicacy, has begun in several wilayas of the Sultanate of Oman.

Al Faghour is a product made from unripe dates, and its production occurs in Oman, particularly in the Wilayat of Manah in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. It is one of the social and historical events that is primarily carried out by family members and neighbors.

Mohammed bin Khalaf Al Masroouri, a farmer in the Wilayat of Manah in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate who participates in this activity, stated that the process requires careful removal of the outer skin of unripe dates (Tabsil). The dates are dried and processed to Al Faghour.

This seasonal activity is confined to Al Mabsaly date palm trees, which are planted in almost all wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman, with the exception of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

The Tabsil season typically runs from June to July each year, according to him, and Al Faghour is a delectable dish with rising demand both within and outside the Sultanate of Oman, marketed in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, with most of the product exported to India.

Al Faghour costs between 500 and 700 baisa per kilogram, with an average price of OMR 1 in most shopping centers and hypermarkets, he said.
This product is also available in powdered form and may be used to make candies, cakes, and cookies instead of white sugar, as Al Mabsaly date palm is renowned for its sweet dates, according to him.

“We have future plans to utilize Al Faghour goods in food industries like sweets, biscuits, and cookies to guarantee large revenue for the product,” he said.
