Australian Open: Jannik Sinner Goes Past World No. 36 Nicolas Jarry In First Round

Melbourne: On Monday, renowned Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner advanced past World No. 36 Nicolas Jarry in the opening round of the Australian Open 2025, held at the Rod Laver Arena.

According to ATP reports, Sinner secured a victory with scores of 7-6(2), 7-6(5), 6-1 against Jarry in this prestigious tournament.

Jarry challenged Sinner significantly in the first two sets, but Sinner ultimately pulled away to claim a decisive win.

With this victory, Sinner extended his impressive winning streak to 16 matches, having won the last 14 in straight sets, as noted by ATP.

Jarry managed to earn the first two break points of the match, but Sinner remained composed, making a strong comeback during critical moments. He held his nerve in the second-set tiebreak after missing two set points.

Sinner secured the second set by capitalizing on an error from Jarry, and he dominated the third set, winning it 6-1, thereby advancing to the second round of the tournament.

In the next round of the Australian Open 2025, Sinner will face Tristan Schoolkate, who achieved his first win at the Australian Open by defeating Taro Daniel with scores of 6-7(6), 7-6(4), 6-1, 6-4.

After the match, Sinner reflected on the close contest against Jarry, praising his opponent as an "incredible player" with "huge potential."

"I think today was a very close one because the first sets, they can go both ways. In the third set, when I broke him the first time, that gave me a little bit of room to breathe. He is an incredible player, huge potential, so I'm happy how I handled the very tough situation in the first couple of sets and happy to be in the next round," Sinner stated, as reported by ATP.

He expressed his gratitude for the support from the fans, noting that it felt wonderful to return to Australia.

"The audience and the supporters provide me with tremendous encouragement, and it's truly a pleasure to be back. I have a fondness for the hard courts here as well. However, each year presents its own challenges, and each day is unique... We will certainly aim for improvement; there are definitely areas where I can enhance my performance. This is my first official match of the year, so I am quite pleased," he remarked.
