Muscat – The youth Ranking Race organized by Oman Sail concluded at the Suhar Festival, showcasing an impressive performance by young sailors competing in the Optimist, ILCA 4, and ILCA 6 categories. Spectators were treated to a remarkable sailing exhibition, with awards presented to the top three finishers in each race, as well as to the best-performing girls and juniors in the Optimist category.
Saud Talib Al Shaqsi emerged as the overall winner in the Optimist class, achieving three victories out of four races and finishing four points ahead of Firas Haitham Al Nabhani, who secured second place. Abdulrahman Al Hadi claimed third, just one point behind. In the Optimist Girls' category, Hadeel Yousuf Al Mushaifri took the top spot, finishing eighth overall, followed by Tarteel Zaid Al Hasani in second and Abeer Khalil Al Zakwani in third.
In the Junior competition, Mohammed Ziyad Al Qasmi finished sixth overall to claim victory, with Habib Abdulaziz Al Haseni in twelfth overall and Harib Mohsin Al Busaidi in thirteenth overall.
Abdulatif Ziyad Al Qasmi dominated the ILCA 4 category, securing four wins out of six races. Faisal Hamed Al Adwi finished in second place with one win and two second-place finishes, narrowly ahead of Saleh Ali Al Balushi, who achieved one win, one second, and two third-place finishes.
The ILCA 6 category was won by Al Mutasim Hamood Al Farsi, who recorded three victories from six races and consistently placed in the top three. Ali Al Saadi finished in second with two race wins, while Elyas Bader Al Fadhli secured third place after winning the final race of the event.
Hashim Al Rashdi, Head Coach Performance at Oman Sail and Team Leader, remarked, “This event was significant for our young sailors, who effectively applied their training and excelled in all categories, while also introducing the sport to a new audience. The results from this event will play a crucial role in determining future selections for the national sailing team for regional and international regattas. The performances observed this weekend clearly demonstrate that we possess a wealth of talent and several highly promising sailors across all age groups.”
The ranking race at the Suhar Festival was organized by Oman Sail under the auspices of the Oman Maritime Sports Committee as part of the annual Suhar Festival.
