UAE Reduces Minimum Age Requirement For Drivers

Muscat: The United Arab Emirates has declared that individuals aged 17 years are now eligible to acquire a driver's license.

As per Article 10 of the Federal Decree-law on Traffic Regulation, enacted on September 30, 2024, the criteria for the issuance of a driver's license are as follows:

1. A natural person must reach the age of 17 years.

2. Successful completion of a Medical Examination mandated by the Licensing Authority, or provision of an approved report in compliance with the Executive Regulations of this Decree-Law.

3. Successful completion of the driving test in accordance with the Executive Regulations of this Decree-Law.

4. The Executive Regulations of this Decree-Law will delineate the categories of Driving Licenses, their respective durations, conditions, controls, age groups, and the procedures required for the issuance of each category of Driving License.
