Muscat – A group of six Omani female sailors recently participated in and successfully completed a Technical Officials training clinic, organized by the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) at the Mussanah Sailing School at Oman Sail. This event was attended by participants from Kuwait, Pakistan, and Iran, alongside the six Omani women. Over the course of two days, they engaged in classroom sessions aimed at enhancing their understanding of the responsibilities associated with being a sailing judge, the Racing Rules of Sailing, and the essential skills required for effective race management. The final day featured a practical session and assessment on the water.
The six women, Ibtisam Salim Al Salmi, Hajir Said Al Amrani, Hiba Hamood Al Asmi, Huda Sultan Al Mashrafi, Khaloud Hadid Al Oraimi, and Khair Nisa Al Bulushi, all successfully completed the course led by ASAF Technical Official Rut Subniran from Thailand.
Ibtisam Al Salmi expressed, “Attaining the qualification of a judge is a significant milestone in my professional journey, paving the way for officiating at esteemed sailing events. The course was highly engaging and offered me a fresh perspective on the analysis of the sport and a novel approach to sailing, which I am eager to share with others. I believe it is crucial for female sailors to seize this opportunity to expand their knowledge, acquire the necessary experience for a career in sailing, and contribute to the sport.”
As a Category A High Performance Centre, the Mussanah Sailing School at Oman Sail serves as a hub for training and development programs for sailors and coaches across Asia. It hosts clinics ranging from beginner to elite levels. Additionally, the school is set to organize local, regional, and national sailing events aimed at promoting sailing in Oman and fostering partnerships with local schools, sailing clubs, and organizations to introduce the community to the sport.
Therefore, the 13th edition of Oman Sail’s Mussanah Race Week is scheduled to commence on October 1st, with 110 sailors from nine different countries gathering at the Barceló Mussanah Resort for a week filled with competition, camaraderie, and knowledge exchange.
