Shabab Oman II Sets Sail For Europe On Its 7th International Voyage

Muscat— Today, the Shabab Oman II, part of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), set sail from the Said Bin Sultan Naval Base, initiating its seventh international journey named “Glories of the Seas,” headed towards Europe.

This vessel represents the profound maritime traditions of Oman alongside the notable accomplishments of the present time, reflecting the nation's continuous commitment to nurturing friendships, peace, and unity among global communities.

A formal send-off took place at Said Bin Sultan Naval Base with Sheikh Abdulmalik Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council, presiding over the ceremony. A visual presentation illustrated Oman’s remarkable maritime legacy throughout history, emphasizing the nation's contributions to navigation, seafaring traditions, and its role in enhancing connections between Oman and other cultures. The Royal Oman Navy Band entertained guests with a variety of musical performances.

Sheikh Al Khalili, along with prominent figures, military officials, and senior attendees, took a tour of Shabab Oman II and received updates concerning the ship, its journey, and the objectives of the expedition. Following this, a visual display showcased the vessel’s achievements during previous regional and international travels and its function in promoting Omani culture globally.

Participants also explored the vessel’s modern facilities and advanced maritime technology, confirming its preparedness for the upcoming mission. The Naval Arts Team performed traditional folk arts related to maritime culture.

The ceremony welcomed numerous ministers, high-ranking military and security personnel, ambassadors from Arab and allied nations, esteemed retired officers, military attachés, and other notable guests.

On its seventh international journey, Shabab Oman II is set to visit 30 locations, docking at 24 ports across 15 nations. It will take part in events such as the Bremerhaven Sail Festival, Amsterdam Sail Festival, and the Tall Ships Races, among other maritime celebrations. The expedition will span six months, covering more than 18,000 nautical miles round trip.

Aboard the vessel, there are 84 trainees from the Sultan’s Armed Forces, various military and security sectors, along with participants from the Directorate General of Scouts and Girl Guides under the Ministry of Education. These trainees will partake in a specialized curriculum focusing on sailing techniques, marine navigation, astronomy, and additional skills aimed at enhancing their practical expertise. They will also assist in communicating Oman’s message of friendship, love, and harmony globally.

The Shabab Oman II aims to fortify Oman’s relationships with countries worldwide by presenting Omani culture at each port, displaying the country’s distinguished maritime history, ancient customs, and contemporary advancements.

It is important to note that the Shabab Oman program of the Royal Navy of Oman, which promotes sustainable peace and cultural dialogue, has received recognition from UNESCO as one of the best practices for preserving intangible cultural heritage—this international accolade stems from the vessel’s unwavering commitment to advancing cross-cultural and civilizational communication.
