Seales, King Guide West Indies To Clinch 7-wicket Victory Over Bangladesh In 2nd ODI

Basseterre: Jayden Seales delivered an impressive four-wicket performance, while opener Brandon King contributed a rapid half-century, leading West Indies to a seven-wicket triumph over Bangladesh in the second ODI at Warner Park on Tuesday night.

This victory gives West Indies a 2-0 advantage in the three-match series against Bangladesh.

In pursuit of a target of 228, King and Evin Lewis played pivotal roles in securing the series with one match remaining.

After winning the toss, West Indies chose to bowl first against Bangladesh. Shai Hope's decision proved beneficial as the Windies' bowling unit quickly claimed early wickets, applying pressure on the visiting team.

Tanzid Hasan was the standout performer for Bangladesh, scoring 46 runs off 33 balls, including four fours and two sixes, at a strike rate of 139.39, contributing vital runs to the total.

In the middle order, Mahmudullah scored 62 runs from 92 balls, supported by Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who added 45 runs from 62 balls. Their efforts helped Bangladesh reach a total of 227 runs with five overs remaining.

Jayden Seales' exceptional four-wicket haul was instrumental in dismantling the Bangladesh batting lineup, while Gudakesh Motie also claimed two wickets in his ten-over spell.

Marquino Mindley, Romario Shepherd, Justin Greaves, and Roston Chase each contributed with one wicket in their respective bowling spells.

During the chase, Brandon King scored 82 runs off 76 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes, while Evin Lewis added 49 runs from 62 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Their 109-run opening partnership significantly eased the run chase for the hosts.

Rishad Hossain achieved the initial breakthrough in the second innings by dismissing Lewis. Nevertheless, the hosts remained unfazed as Keacy Carty contributed significantly with 45 runs off 47 balls, including seven boundaries, forming a 66-run partnership following the first wicket's fall.

In the 29th over, Nahid Rana managed to dismiss the formidable King, but by then, the damage had already been inflicted. The outstanding performance from the Windies' top order ultimately secured them the series victory.

In the concluding moments, captain Shai Hope, scoring 17 runs from 21 balls with one four and one six, alongside Sherfane Rutherford, who made 24 runs off 15 balls with one four and two sixes, remained not out, guiding the team to a seven-wicket win with 79 balls to spare.

Bangladesh's performance in the second innings was lackluster, with the bowlers failing to deliver effectively. Nahid Rana, Rishad Hossain, and Afif Hossain were the only bowlers to claim wickets for the visitors.

Jayden Seales was awarded the Player of the Match on Tuesday night.

Brief score: Bangladesh 227 (Mahmudullah 62, Tanzid Hasan 46; Jayden Seales 4/22) vs West Indies 230/3 (Brandon King 82, Evin Lewis 49; Afif Hossain 1/12).
