Sayyid Theyazin To Patronise SQU Sports Tournament Today

Muscat: The 10th Sports Tournament of GCC Universities and Higher Education Institutions, organized by Sultan Qaboos University, will commence on Monday under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth.

Scheduled to take place from January 18 to 24, 2025, the tournament aims to foster camaraderie and strengthen collaboration in sports and cultural activities among students from universities and higher education institutions across the GCC.

The opening ceremony will feature a speech from the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, a folkloric performance, a medley, the entrance of participating teams, and a film titled ‘Our Gulf, Our Legacy.’

Participants will engage in various sports, including athletics, swimming, football, basketball (3 × 3), volleyball, badminton, and table tennis. Competitions will be hosted at several venues, including Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Seeb Sports Stadium, and the Military Technological College.

This tournament presents a valuable opportunity to nurture athletic talent and promote academic and sports collaboration among GCC universities and higher education institutions.

Sultan Qaboos University emphasizes the significance of this initiative in uniting efforts and cultivating a promising generation of athletes capable of representing their nations on the international stage.

The tournament's slogan, ‘Our Gulf, Our Legacy,’ encapsulates the profound themes of this edition, highlighting the balance between fair competition and a spirit of brotherhood.

Through this event, the university aims to strengthen national identity, provide students with a platform to showcase their institutions in sports, and enhance fraternal relations while facilitating the exchange of experiences.
