Sandan City: A Model For Automotive Sector Integration In Oman

Muscat: Sandan City, situated within the Wilayat of Nakhal, a region in the South Al Batinah Governorate, is gradually emerging as a comprehensive hub for the automotive industry.

The third phase of the Sandan Economic City project is presently in progress, incorporating several new initiatives in collaboration with a local developer. This phase encompasses the development of "Auto Park," a state-of-the-art automotive center designed to accommodate 50 car showrooms, strategically positioned to attract both new car agencies and used car dealerships. This development is in harmony with the government's objective of regulating the labor market and creating employment opportunities for Omani youth. Furthermore, the plans include the construction of a mosque, a car refueling station, and various workshops and warehouses.

Mohammed bin Hamad Al Siyabi, the Director of Asset Management at Sandan City, has highlighted that this project is a testament to Oman's significant strides in organizing industries, businesses, and real estate development. The city's success in establishing a well-structured environment has piqued the interest of international companies and investors, offering a facility that meets global standards.

Al Siyabi pointed out that Sandan City is home to the largest collection of used car showrooms in Oman, with 100 showrooms established in the initial and subsequent phases. Presently, half of these showrooms are operational, showcasing over 1,000 vehicles. The city also offers a variety of services, including financing, insurance, workshops, and luxury shops, within over 1,200 specially designed establishments catering to business needs. Additionally, Sandan City features spacious showrooms for electronics and construction supplies, as well as areas dedicated to small, low-emission industries.

Al Siyabi underscored that the concept behind Sandan City is in alignment with the government's aim of generating employment opportunities for young Omanis and organizing business sectors to cultivate an environment conducive to local entrepreneurship.

The strategic location of Sandan City was chosen to facilitate the expansion and urban development of Muscat Governorate, ensuring convenient access for visitors from Muscat, South Al Batinah, and neighboring governorates.

Sandan City stands as the inaugural integrated automotive sector city in Oman, spanning an area of 250,000 square meters and requiring an investment of 100 million Omani riyals. It currently accommodates over 2,500 residents in more than 1,200 housing units, constituting a vital component of the project's vision.
