Restoration Of Several Archaeological Sites Completed In Shinas

Shinas: The restoration and maintenance activities for various heritage and archaeological locations within the village of Mirir, found in the Wilayat of Shinas in the North Al Batinah Governorate, have been successfully finalized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

This work includes both Mirir Tower and Al Murabba Tower, which are part of continuous efforts to maintain Oman’s historical and architectural legacy.

The objective of this initiative is to protect these sites while emphasizing their cultural significance, ensuring they continue to represent a living legacy and reflect the history of the nation.

Hassan Sulaiman Al Jabri, the Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department in the North Al Batinah Governorate, mentioned that the restoration of Mirir and Al Murabba Towers in Shinas culminated through community involvement under the guidance of the ministry. He noted that this undertaking provided materials such as sarooj (traditional mortar) alongside technical expertise.

He detailed that Al Murabba Tower is positioned in the village of Mirir Al Matarish, situated to the west of the coastal road. This square-shaped edifice measures around 4. 5 meters in length, 3. 3 meters in width, and rises to a height of 7 meters. Constructed on an elevated hill, it is surrounded by a water channel (wadi) to the south, built from mud and stone.

On the other hand, Mirir Tower is located on coastal land in Mirir Al Matarish village, to the east of the coastal road, offering views of the Sea of Oman. The cylindrical structure, made from mud and gravel, features several openings and has a diameter of 6 meters while reaching a height of approximately 10 meters.

The Wilayat of Shinas boasts a wealth of historical forts, castles, and watchtowers, including notable sites such as Shinas Fort, Rasat Al Milh Fort, Khidrawain Fort, Ajeeb Fort, and Al Asrar Fort.
