Rawalpindi: Continuous rainfall in Rawalpindi led to the cancellation of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, according to the official International Cricket Council (ICC) website.
Both teams have already faced defeats against India and New Zealand, eliminating them from the semi-final race in the tournament.
With hopes of concluding their campaigns on a positive note, both teams ended up sharing one point each.
The host nation, Pakistan, has had a disappointing Champions Trophy 2025 on home soil. They lost their opening match in Karachi to New Zealand by 60 runs and subsequently fell to India by six wickets in Dubai, effectively ending their chances of advancing to the semi-finals.
On the other hand, Bangladesh suffered a defeat in their initial match against India. Although they managed to chase down a target with six wickets remaining, they were later defeated by New Zealand, who won by five wickets, securing their place in the semi-finals alongside India.
A victory today in Rawalpindi would serve as little more than a consolation for both teams, as they have nothing significant left to compete for.
Earlier on Wednesday, Afghanistan delivered an outstanding performance, narrowly defeating England in a thrilling encounter in Group B.
Batting first, Afghanistan achieved their highest-ever total in an ICC Men's ODI tournament, with Ibrahim Zadran setting a record for the highest score in Champions Trophy history at 177, leading Afghanistan to a total of 325/7.
Joe Root's efforts provided England with a competitive edge, but the Afghan bowlers delivered an impressive performance, securing a remarkable victory. Azmatullah Omarzai stood out as the leading bowler, concluding with impressive figures of 5/58.
As a result, England has been eliminated from the race for a spot in the final four, while Afghanistan finds itself in a tight competition for the semifinals alongside Australia and South Africa.
