Paris Paralympics: Sheetal Devi Finishes Second In Ranking Round

Paris: In the qualification round of the Women's Individual Compound Archery event at the Paris Paralympics, Indian archer Sheetal Devi showcased an exceptional performance, setting a new World Record with a score of 703 points, surpassing the previous record of 698 points.

Although she was subsequently surpassed by Turkey's Curuklu Girdi, who achieved a new World Record of 704 points, Devi secured the second position in the overall ranking round. She is scheduled to compete in the round of 32.

In the Women's Individual Compound Archery qualification, Sarita Devi of India achieved a score of 682 points, securing the ninth position in the standings.

In the men's individual compound archery category, Rakesh Kumar achieved a score of 696 points, placing him in the fifth position. Meanwhile, India's Shyam Sundar Swami ended the competition at the 15th position with a score of 688 points.

As the Paralympics in Paris progress, India's athletes continue to demonstrate their focus and determination, with additional events scheduled for the forthcoming days.

This year, India has fielded its largest contingent to the Paralympics, with 84 athletes representing the country across 12 sports, reflecting the growth of India's para-sports ecosystem. The participation of India in the Paralympics in Paris 2024 is not only a testament to the country's increasing presence but also to its aspirations of achieving greater success in terms of medal count, aiming to exceed its performance in Tokyo.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics were India's most successful edition, with the nation securing 19 medals, including five gold, eight silver, and six bronze.
