Over 1,000 Runners Likely To Take Part In Oman Desert Marathon

The 10th edition of the Oman Desert Marathon commenced yesterday in the Wilayat of Bidiyah, located in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. 

This event will run until January 22, featuring over 1,000 runners, including participants from various countries in open races. 

The inaugural stage of the marathon was held under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sayyid Faris bin Fatik Al Said. 

The opening of the 42-kilometer first stage coincided with short races of 2, 5, 10, and 21 kilometers, designed for families and children of all ages, and included cultural and sporting festivities. 

Said Mohamed Al Hajri, General Supervisor of the Oman Desert Marathon, noted that this year's marathon builds on the success of previous editions, which attracted numerous international racing champions. 

He emphasized that the event garners significant media attention and plays a vital role in promoting tourism in the Sultanate of Oman, encouraging participation from diverse age groups and nationalities. 

Al Hajri also mentioned that this year's marathon is organized in collaboration with various government and private sector entities. 

The marathon consists of four stages covering a total distance of 165 kilometers: the first stage is 42 kilometers, the second stage is 55 kilometers, the third stage is 47 kilometers, and the final stage is 21 kilometers, along with a 100-kilometer walking race.
