Salalah: Omran Group, the Sultanate of Oman's tourist development executive arm, has reported significant progress in the early-stage development of Janaen Salalah, a groundbreaking agritourism initiative based in Arzat, Salalah. This program is part of Oman's larger goal of diversifying its economy by merging sustainable tourism with agricultural-based industries.
As part of the ongoing development efforts, H. H. Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth, and Water Resources, paid a field visit to the project location, accompanied by senior Group officials and other important stakeholders.
During the trip, they were informed on the project's main components, development phases, and recent changes. The tour also featured the symbolic planting of the first coconut trees, signaling the start of the initial planting phase. This achievement marks an important stage in the overall goal of converting the property into a productive landscape that is consistent with the project's agritourism objectives.
Janaen, developed by the Agritourism Development Company, a completely owned subsidiary of the Omran Group, aims to establish the Sultanate of Oman as a regional agritourism leader by integrating agricultural activity, lodging, leisure, and community life into a single unified setting.
The project's masterplan, which spans over 5. 5 million square metres, depicts a well-integrated combination of components, including farm-based lodging, coconut and papaya processing facilities, educational and recreational sections, and a retail village—all cleverly planned to provide a dynamic and immersive agritourism experience for residents and visitors alike.
Several basic tasks have been completed in Phase 1 in anticipation of the official construction start.
These include the completion of the concept masterplan design, which details the strategic integration of agricultural and tourism elements. A comprehensive feasibility study has validated the project's feasibility, prompting a formal decision to begin Phase 1. Furthermore, the initiative has been granted an Integrated Tourism Complex (ITC) licence by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, which is a critical milestone that permits foreign ownership and increases investment potential. A seasoned agriculture contractor has been hired, and preliminary planting work has begun.
Once completed, Janaen Salalah will include 250 dwelling units, a 128-key 5-star hotel, and specially constructed spaces for ecorecreation, edutainment, and health. These features will be enhanced by bright public spaces and year-round programming that emphasizes Oman's agricultural past and natural scenery, resulting in a destination that blends living, education, and enjoyment.
"This development reflects our continuous dedication to pioneering sustainable tourism models that attract investment, support local agriculture, and provide fascinating visitor experiences based on Oman's natural heritage," said Mundher Al Moosawi, Board of Managers Member at Janaen.
The development corresponds with Oman Vision 2040, specifically the Competitive Economy and Environmental Sustainability pillars. It promotes national goals like as economic diversification, governorate development, public-private cooperation, and environmental stewardship, establishing Janaen Salalah as a prototype for responsible, value-driven tourism growth.
As Omran Group approaches the start of the following phase of the Janaen Salalah project, initiatives are intensifying to establish it as a model destination that fosters innovation, provides added value, and promotes long-term economic prosperity in collaboration with our strategic partners.
