Muscat: Dr. Thuraya Said Al Sariri has been honored with the prestigious Arab Women’s Excellence Award in its fourth edition, recognizing her exceptional contributions to environmental action.
As a dedicated advocate for ecology, Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri has been awarded for her unwavering commitment to safeguarding the environment and advocating for sustainability.
In her current role as Assistant Director General for Nature Conservation at the Environment Authority (EA), Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri represents the Sultanate of Oman in numerous international meetings and councils, including the UNESCO’s International Coordinating Council for Man and Biosphere Reserves (MAB-ICC).
She is also recognized as one of Oman’s leading experts in nature, serving as a member of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee and Head of the Specialized Group of Plant Experts for the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri has led several national teams, including the technical team responsible for formulating Oman’s environmental strategy, the technical team for the “National Initiative to Plant 10 Million Trees,” and the governance team tasked with facilitating Oman’s participation in the 29th Climate Summit.
Furthermore, Dr. Thuraya Al-Sariri has played a pivotal role in the development of projects that have led to the establishment of nature reserves in Oman.
