Muscat, 29 Jan (ONA) — His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, expressed their appreciation for the strengthening of bilateral relations and shared interests. They emphasized the importance of broadening avenues for cooperation by identifying additional opportunities and motivating both public and private sectors to diversify economic and investment partnerships to fulfill the aspirations of their nations' citizens.
A joint communiqué was released today in connection with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani's state visit to the Sultanate of Oman on January 28 and 29, 2025. The communiqué states:
“In light of the longstanding historical connections between the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Qatar, as well as the close fraternal relationship between His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and with the aim of enhancing bilateral relations, His Majesty the Sultan welcomed Sheikh Tamim, who arrived in Oman leading a high-level delegation for a two-day state visit on Tuesday and Wednesday—January 28 and 29, 2025, corresponding to 28 and 29 Rajab 1446 AH.
Throughout the visit, both parties engaged in comprehensive discussions in a spirit of genuine fraternity. They assessed the progress of collaborative efforts and bilateral cooperation, which reflects the depth of their existing relationship. The two leaders praised the advancement of their relations and mutual interests, reiterating the necessity of expanding cooperation and economic partnerships by seeking and developing new opportunities, while encouraging both public and private sectors to diversify economic and investment collaborations in a way that aligns with the aspirations of their peoples.
The visit culminated in the signing of several memoranda of understanding and executive programs that encompass various areas of mutual interest across a wide range of sectors and partnership domains.
The two parties acknowledged the achievements of the Omani-Qatari Joint Committee and recognized its significant role in fostering bilateral cooperation and executing joint initiatives that benefit both nations. They emphasized the importance of continuing the committee's work to explore new avenues for partnership, particularly in economic and investment projects involving both public and private sectors.
The leaders also reviewed the advancements made within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), highlighting the notable successes in collaborative efforts and the increased unity, cooperation, and integration among member states for the benefit of their populations.
Additionally, the two sides addressed various regional and international matters of mutual interest. They underscored the necessity of resolving conflicts and disputes through peaceful means and highlighted the importance of enhancing dialogue and international collaboration to support initiatives aimed at achieving security and stability both regionally and globally.
Furthermore, they stressed the need for ongoing consultation and coordination of their positions to promote their shared interests and reinforce the foundations of stability, security, and prosperity for all peoples in the region and beyond.
The two parties expressed their hope that the conflicting parties in Gaza would adhere to the terms of the agreement regarding the exchange of detainees and prisoners. They noted that this commitment would facilitate the pursuit of a just and comprehensive peace in the region, ultimately leading to a lasting ceasefire. They also highlighted the critical need for regional and international cooperation to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and support its reconstruction efforts.
The Omani delegation acknowledged the significant role played by the State of Qatar in facilitating this crucial agreement, highlighting Qatar's mediation efforts alongside the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States. They also recognized Qatar's contributions to restoring sustainable peace in the region.
Both parties emphasized the importance of upholding the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic. They advocated for support of all initiatives aimed at establishing a comprehensive and inclusive transitional process that aligns with the aspirations of the Syrian people for stability, development, and a dignified life. They reiterated that the security and stability of Syria are essential for the overall stability of the region.
The two sides expressed their approval of the measures implemented to protect civilians in Syria, halt the violence, promote national interests, and preserve the institutions and capabilities of the Syrian state.
At the end of the visit, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the gracious welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation. In return, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik wished Sheikh Tamim continued health and well-being, expressing hopes for further progress and prosperity for the State of Qatar and its people.
