Muscat: Today, the Sultanate of Oman hosted a roundtable meeting regarding the Postal Prosperity Zone (PPZ) initiative, represented by Oman Post, which is part of the Asyad Group and affiliated with the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
The purpose of this initiative is to advance the operations of national postal services by implementing swift and adaptive digital solutions that allow for seamless integration into the global e-commerce landscape.
During his address at the meeting, Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology, highlighted the significance of transitioning to digital processes and fostering collaborative frameworks to boost the competitiveness of domestic postal services.
The PPZ initiative, aligned with the Abidjan Postal Strategy, adheres to guidelines established by both the UPU and the World Customs Organization. Its objective is to enhance the infrastructure related to postal logistics and customs operations, thereby creating a pathway for cross-border e-commerce.
By incorporating digital operations and developing comprehensive operational networks, this initiative offers a sophisticated framework for the efficient delivery of packages and shipments from origin to final destination within global markets.
Oman Post’s involvement in this initiative marks progress toward supporting the Sultanate of Oman’s digital economy and fulfilling the commercial goals of the group, which align with the aims of Oman Vision 2040. This vision prioritizes the logistics sector as crucial for economic diversification and regional competitiveness.
Additionally, the initiative bolsters the Asyad Group’s aspiration to position Oman as a comprehensive logistics hub.
The "Postal Prosperity Zone" initiative is expected to enhance the integrated logistics infrastructure by establishing complete digital connectivity between Oman Post and international e-commerce platforms. Moreover, it aids in the development of sophisticated customs frameworks and strengthens global transport efficiency.
This project focuses on the instant exchange of information between postal and customs systems, the standardization of shipment tracking processes and labeling, and the optimization of air, sea, rail, and road transport operations.
An international delegation undertook a three-day visit to the ASYAD Group's integrated facilities, encompassing ports, free zones, and multimodal transport centers. This delegation includes members from the UPU Advisory Committee, officials from the World Customs Organization, representatives from governmental offices, and partners in international e-commerce.
