Oman, Philippines Sign Visa Waiver For Diplomatic, Special, Service Passports

Manila: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of the Philippines today signed a reciprocal visa exemption agreement for individuals carrying diplomatic, special, and service passports.

The action reinforces the friendly ties between the two countries, as well as their desire to investigate ways to improve cooperation and collaboration in the economic and scientific spheres.

The agreement was signed during a meeting in Manila between Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Philippines' Foreign Minister, and Maria Theresa Lazaro, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

Both parties decided to seek ways to sign many memoranda of understanding and agreements that would improve bilateral collaboration. The two officials also agreed to host the second OmanPhilippines Investment Forum in Muscat next year to strengthen long-term economic cooperation.

On the political front, the two parties exchanged perspectives on regional concerns of mutual concern, including as talks on knowledge transfer, skill training, and strengthening links between ASEAN and the GCC.

Maria Theresa Lazaro, the Philippines' Secretary of Foreign Affairs, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for Oman's humanitarian activities, which resulted in the liberation of numerous seamen from the MV Galaxy Leaders in Yemen. She also lauded Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's wise and balanced foreign policy, as well as the fair treatment of Filipino employees in Oman.

She also praised the results of the successful OmanCebu Investment Forum and stated her desire to back more private sector activities aimed at capitalizing on existing investment prospects.

For his part, Sayyid Badr valued the Philippine Foreign Secretary's remarks, which highlighted the common beliefs and friendship that have developed in the service of mutual objectives and shared prosperity.

Eng. Nasser bin Said Al Manouri, Oman's Ambassador to the Philippines; Raul Hernandez, the Philippines' Ambassador to Oman; and a number of officials from both nations attended the conference.
