Muscat: The AMM Sports Arena, in partnership with the Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC), recently marked the successful conclusion of the third season of the Oman Grand Prix Badminton Tournament.
Spanning two thrilling weekends on November 8-9 and 15-16, the tournament attracted over 200 participants from Oman, India, Indonesia, the UAE, Iran, and the UK, setting a new standard for participation and inclusivity.
This year's event featured 24 categories across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, providing a platform for both experienced athletes and rising stars. The matches highlighted exceptional athleticism, strategic play, and fierce competition, particularly in the senior divisions, captivating the audience throughout. The tournament served as a dynamic venue for players of varying ages and skill levels, underscoring the advancement of badminton at both grassroots and elite tiers.
The enthusiastic presence of local and international spectators contributed to an electrifying atmosphere during the matches. Their support not only inspired the competitors but also reflected the increasing popularity of badminton in the region. The tournament's allure was further enhanced by a substantial prize pool exceeding OMR4,000, awarded to winners and runners-up in each category, ensuring high stakes and outstanding performances.
The closing ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Abdul Rahim Muslem Droushi, Chairman of the Oman Racket Sports Committee, and Ahmed Essa Al Zedjali, CEO of Muscat Media Group.
In his speech, Droushi praised the organisers for their commitment to advancing badminton and other racket sports in Oman. He highlighted the significance of such events in fostering young talent and enhancing international sports collaborations.
Zedjali reiterated these thoughts, emphasizing the significant impact of media coverage in motivating future generations of athletes.
