A’Rustaq: The fourth edition of the Oman Geological Heritage Exhibition, themed "Sustainability and Job Opportunities," commenced on Monday at Al Hazm Fort in the Wilayat of A’Rustaq, located in the South Al Batinah Governorate. This exhibition will remain open until the end of June 2025.
Organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of South Al Batinah, Petroleum Development Oman, and the Geological Society of Oman, the exhibition aims to enhance the museum system and promote tourist and heritage sites across various governorates.
The inauguration of the exhibition, presided over by Eng. Masoud Said Al Hashimi, Governor of South Al Batinah, reflects the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism's commitment to emphasizing the significance of geological heritage in Oman, as well as its preservation and sustainability.
The exhibition features six sections, which include narratives about geological heritage, the diverse geology of Oman, its geological history, the formation of the land throughout geological time, the importance of preserving geological heritage, and job opportunities in geotourism.
Attendees can view remarkable pieces of Oman's geological heritage, including a fossil estimated to be around 800 million years old, three-dimensional scientific models of an extinct primitive elephant discovered in the “Eidam” area of Dhofar Governorate, a model of an extinct dinosaur whose fossilized remains were found in Al Khoudh in the Wilayat of A’Seeb, along with other exceptional geological fossils.
