MUSCAT – The football community in Oman was left reeling on Tuesday night after the tragic passing of Abdul Salam Amer Al Mukhaini, a renowned former international player and central defender for Dhofar Club, who was only 36 years old.
Abdul Salam was last seen on the field during the Super Cup match, where he demonstrated his skills as part of a triumphant Dhofar team just a week prior. His illustrious career commenced in 2010 with the Red Warriors, and he went on to play for several prestigious clubs throughout the region, including teams in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.
During his career, Abdul Salam garnered numerous honors, including winning His Majesty's Cup with Al Arouba Club and securing the Oman Super Cup three times. He was also instrumental in Kuwait Club's successful run to capture the Kuwait Premier League title.
On the international front, he represented Oman in the Gulf Cup and took part in the Asian Cup and FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, earning admiration and respect from fans and fellow players alike.
In the wake of the shocking news of his passing, heartfelt tributes began to emerge across social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter).
The Oman Football Association (OFA), Dhofar Club, players, journalists, and fans expressed their deep sorrow and shared memories of a player celebrated for his dedication and skill on the pitch.
Abdul Salam played 70 international matches for Oman and over 100 games for leading clubs in the region.
