Oman Affirms Full Solidarity With Lebanon

Cairo: The Sultanate of Oman has unequivocally expressed its unwavering support for Lebanon, advocating for restraint and adherence to international legitimacy to mitigate the region's exposure to the perils of conflict.

This declaration of solidarity was made during Oman's participation in the Arab League Council's emergency meeting, which was convened at the level of permanent delegates. The meeting, chaired by Yemen, aimed to deliberate on the Arab League's collective response to Lebanon's crisis.

Representing Oman at the assembly was Ambassador Abdullah Nasser Al Rahbi, the Sultanate of Oman's envoy to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League.

In his address, Ambassador Al Rahbi highlighted the multifaceted challenges Lebanon is currently grappling with, including widespread human suffering and displacement, which he described as the largest in modern Lebanon's history.

He further underscored the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, calling for a swift and effective response that ensures the basic needs of the civilian population are met.

Ambassador Al Rahbi attributed the persistence of conflict and violence in the region to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, which has spanned over seventy years. He emphasized that this occupation obstructs genuine efforts to safeguard the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He argued that achieving this goal is crucial for restoring security, stability, and peace in the region.

The assembly, convened at Iraq's request with broad Arab support, will focus on discussing the Arab League's role in solidarity with Lebanon and strategies to address the severe consequences of Israeli aggression. It has also called upon the international community to stand by the Lebanese people and collaborate with international organizations to expedite the delivery of urgent aid to those affected in Lebanon.
