National Museum, Oman Thakira Centre Sign Cooperation Pact

Muscat: In a concerted effort to underscore the richness of Omani cultural heritage, the National Museum and the Oman Thakira Centre have formalized their collaboration through a cooperation agreement. This pact is a testament to their shared commitment to the exchange of knowledge and expertise, areas of mutual interest.

The agreement was ceremoniously signed by Jamal Hassan Al Moosawi, the esteemed Secretary-General of the National Museum, and Mahmoud Abdullah Al Saqri, the distinguished Head of the Oman Thakira Centre.

This agreement embodies the mutual understanding and belief in the significance of fostering a partnership between governmental entities and civil society organizations. These entities are dedicated to the preservation of national heritage, the exhibition of cultural treasures, the safeguarding of Oman’s intellectual legacy, and the promotion of awareness regarding their importance, thereby cultivating a culture of appreciation for these invaluable assets.

The scope of this cooperation agreement encompasses the exchange of knowledge in areas of mutual interest. The National Museum will extend its support and consultancy services to the Oman Thakira Centre in the realms of museum management and the display of collections.

Conversely, the Oman Thakira Centre pledges to offer scientific advice concerning manuscripts and intellectual heritage.

Furthermore, both entities have committed to joint endeavors in organizing seminars, conferences, training workshops, and exhibitions focused on Omani heritage. Additionally, the Centre will periodically submit proposals to the National Museum regarding the acquisition of valuable heritage items from private collections, subject to adherence to established lending regulations.

This agreement signifies a pivotal moment in the collective efforts to preserve Omani cultural heritage and promote national identity. It reflects the dedication of both parties to the service of Oman’s history and legacy.

It is important to note that the Oman Thakira Centre stands as a cultural and scientific institution, registered with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, under the regulations governing cultural centers. Established in 2013, it was in response to the research community’s needs in Oman and beyond, aimed at uncovering the treasures of Omani intellectual heritage and memory, with the objective of integrating efforts in heritage revival and providing research services.
