Dubai: Larsen & Toubro's Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) sector has successfully secured new contracts in the Middle East, aimed at expanding and reinforcing the electrical grids at elevated voltage levels.
Saudi Arabia: The various operational zones within Saudi Arabia's national electricity network are being linked through High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) connections, facilitating the exchange of power across regions and enhancing the overall system resilience. Larsen & Toubro has been awarded contracts to establish ±500kV HVDC Transmission Links as part of these interconnections.
Furthermore, Larsen & Toubro has been awarded additional contracts for three packages, each involving two 380kV overhead transmission lines and a bulk supply 380kV Gas Insulated Substation. These components play a crucial role in the interconnection and strengthening of the grid.
United Arab Emirates: In Abu Dhabi, Larsen & Toubro has been commissioned to construct two major 400kV Gas Insulated Substations. The scope of these projects extends beyond civil engineering works to include the installation of Series Current Limiting Reactors, Auto Transformers, related control and protection systems, substation monitoring and alarm systems, including fault and power quality monitoring, telecommunication systems, and integration with the Load Dispatch Centre. These substations are expected to significantly increase the capacity of the electricity grid for power transfer.
In response to this development, T. Madhava Das, the Whole-Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at Larsen & Toubro, commented, "The fortification and modernization of transmission systems represent the cornerstone of establishing a secure, resilient grid capable of accommodating variable renewable generation in a dynamic energy market. We are grateful to our customers for entrusting us with these projects."
