Liverpool Stun PSG With Late Winner In Champions League

Liverpool achieved a remarkable upset in UEFA Champions League history by securing a victory in the first leg of their last-16 match against Paris St-Germain (PSG) in Paris.

Despite PSG's overwhelming control of the match, registering 27 shots and forcing Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson into nine saves, they were unable to convert their dominance into goals. Liverpool, on the other hand, struck with their second attempt of the evening in the 87th minute.

Harvey Elliott scored with his very first touch after coming on for Mohamed Salah, receiving a precise pass from Darwin Nunez.

The shock was palpable for Luis Enrique's team, as their inability to score remains a puzzling aspect of the match, particularly given Alisson's outstanding performance.

PSG's attacking duo, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, were particularly difficult to contain at times. Kvaratskhelia had a well-executed goal in the first half that was disallowed by the video assistant referee (VAR) for offside.

Controversially, VAR also played a role in Liverpool's favor when Ibrahima Konate escaped a red card after pushing Bradley Barcola just outside the penalty area.

The second leg will take place at Anfield on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
