The Ministry of Health (MOH) has initiated the construction of the New Samail Hospital project in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, with an estimated cost of OMR 45 million. The groundbreaking ceremony for this state-of-the-art hospital took place today, under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh AbdulMalik Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council. H.E. Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, and H.E. Sheikh Hilal Said Al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, were also present at the ceremony, along with other esteemed guests.
Spanning across a vast land area of 250,000 square meters, the 5-storey hospital will have a built-up area of over 61,000 square meters. The construction of this facility has been meticulously planned, incorporating modern specifications and adhering to international design patterns and contemporary global standards. The aim is to create a distinctive contemporary design that sets it apart from conventional hospitals.
Dr. Saeed Harib Al Lamki, MOH's Undersecretary for Health Affairs, emphasized the significance of expanding specialized services and upgrading referral hospitals as part of the Comprehensive Health Coverage Program. This strategic initiative aims to provide healthcare at the secondary and tertiary levels, and it involves the establishment, replacement, and enhancement of various hospitals across the Sultanate of Oman.
The Health Affairs Undersecretary highlighted that as of the end of 2023, the number of MOH healthcare institutions has reached 265 facilities. These include 194 health centers, 21 health polyclinics, and 50 hospitals, with a combined capacity exceeding five thousand beds. These facilities are dedicated to providing healthcare services across all levels, focusing on efficiency and quality. Currently, the Ministry is actively working on establishing nine new hospitals in all governorates of Oman. The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Samail Hospital today signifies a significant milestone in this regard.
Engineer Yousuf Ya'qoub Ambo Ali, Advisor to the Minister of Health for Engineering Affairs, provided an overview of the new Samail Hospital project. The hospital will have 170 beds and will feature outpatient clinics for various medical specialties, an accident and emergency department, a radiology department with advanced equipment, a physiotherapy unit, a nephrology unit, and a psychiatric clinic. Additionally, the hospital will include a day care unit, a dental clinic, surgical and internal medicine wards, three fully equipped operating theaters, and an intensive care unit. Furthermore, the project will incorporate a floor dedicated to gynaecological and obstetric care, pediatrics, including a pediatric ward, a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), gynaecological and obstetric ward, a maternity ward, two operating rooms, and a special care baby unit (SCBU).
Moreover, the project will encompass an advanced laboratory, pharmacies located throughout the hospital, public facilities, medical category facilities, workshops for maintenance engineers and medical equipment, administrative offices, buildings for medical and general stores, a water treatment station, a helipad, back-up generators, water purification devices, and other essential public services and facilities.
