Muscat: As part of the Muscat Governorate's ongoing training programs to improve institutional performance and readiness to face challenges, as well as to promote integration and coordination among government agencies, a training workshop titled 'Enhancing Administrative Capabilities in Risk Management and Business Continuity Methodologies' was conducted on Tuesday in Muscat.
The workshop was conducted in partnership with the Jadarat Development Foundation and was presented by Dr. Khalifa Al Fathi, a governance, risk management, and compliance specialist.
The workshop aimed at over 120 people, including staff from Their Excellencies the Governors' Offices, government agency workers, and civil society organisation representatives in Muscat Governorate.
The workshop aimed to familiarize attendees with the concepts and fundamentals of enterprise risk management, international frameworks and standards, and methods for designing and implementing successful approaches to manage risks and ensure business continuity.
The workshop covered the distinctions between risks, opportunities, and concerns, the various sorts of risks and their classifications, and the ways to evaluate and manage them following best practices.
The training intends to improve participants' skills in creating effective ERM models, familiarize them with the applied procedures linked to risk management and business continuity, and allow them to make decisions based on a rational and considered evaluation of risks.
According to Saif bin Mohammed bin Khalifa AlRubaei, Director of Risk Management in the Muscat Governorate, this workshop intends to equip attendees and expand their understanding of the fundamentals of risk management and business continuity planning in order to guarantee the ongoing delivery of essential services during emergencies.
This effort is part of the Muscat Governorate's goals to improve collaboration and integration between government and civil society organizations in the governorate in order to achieve Oman Vision 2040 and help raise institutional performance and quality of life.
Dr. Salwa bint Nasser Al Hashemi, Head of the Emergency and Crisis Department at the General Directorate of Health Services in Muscat Governorate, commended the Governorate's efforts in organising such training workshops, noting that this one is particularly valuable and beneficial for her and her colleagues due to the nature of their work in handling crises and hazards.
Noman bin Zahran Al Rawahi, Head of the Muttrah Charity Team, emphasized the significance of training sessions that familiarize employees with the concept of risk management and its application. He stated that this concept has become part of daily working life and is now widely adopted by organizations and institutions to improve their efficiency in the face of challenges.
Intisar bint Salem Al Siyabi, an employee of the Wali of Bausher Office, shared her thoughts, saying, "I was delighted to attend this workshop, which addressed a vital topic that contributes to the sustainability of projects and organisations and introduced me to new and useful concepts in risk management. "
Ali bin Muslim Al Ameri, from the Muscat Governorate's General Directorate of Social Development and coordinator of the Shelter Committee, stated that the workshop covered risk management techniques in both regular work settings and crises and emergencies. He stated that he gained from the information provided, particularly the program for dealing with emergency situations and its practical application in daily tasks.
Sultan bin Mohammed Al Farsi of the Muscat Governorate's Directorate of Education emphasized that educational institutions are not excluded from risk management and confront the same obstacles as other groups when planning for disasters.
He emphasized that special committees have been established at the school level, and all workers have received training and orientation on risk management strategies to verify their preparedness.
Attendees of this workshop expressed high satisfaction, commending the scientific content presented and its significance in increasing organizational performance and operational resilience across sectors.
