EA Leading A Drive For Growing 4 Million Local Trees In Dhofar

Salalah: The Environment Authority in Dhofar Governorate is leading a project to plant approximately 4 million indigenous trees from seed in the governorate's highlands, primarily in the wilayats of Salalah, Mirbat, Taqa, Rakhyut, and Dhalkut.

The campaign will run for 24 days, from July 24. The campaign is coordinated in partnership with Dhofar Municipality, OQ PI, Wa'ai Initiative, and the local community.

The effort is consistent with the national objective of planting 10 million trees in the Sultanate of Oman to reduce desertification and promote biodiversity in the Dhofar Governorate.

Zahran bin Ahmed Al Abdulsalam, acting Director General of environment in Dhofar Governorate, stated that the campaign is still going on in conjunction with the national effort to plant ten million trees.

He stated that planting trees from seeds before the start of Khareef season would guarantee the campaign's success and provides an effective method for early seed-based tree growing.

Planting plants before the Khareef season helps to stabilize the soil and reduce erosion caused by severe rainfall, which aids in the fight against desertification and the preservation of soil fertility.
