Salalah: The Ministry of Labour has convened a forum titled "Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Future of Work" with the aim of examining the influence of technological advancements on the future of employment, as well as the challenges and opportunities presented by emerging work patterns.
This two-day event, hosted in Salalah, is designed to equip the workforce for the swift changes occurring in the employment landscape and to bolster the government's preparedness to embrace AI and future skill requirements.
The inaugural ceremony took place under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, the Governor of Dhofar, and was attended by Dr. Mahad Said Ba’owain, the Minister of Labour.
The forum's objectives encompass: enhancing productivity and efficiency within the workplace, augmenting human capital to meet future challenges and technological advancements in the digital era (which necessitate increased competitiveness and improved service quality), and fostering employee self-development through the acquisition of new technologies and professional advancement.
The event, which took place in conjunction with the Labour Forum, featured four working sessions.
The inaugural session explored the impact of technological developments on the future of work, focusing on the challenges and opportunities presented by evolving work patterns. The second session concentrated on capacity building, the third session addressed the workforce's preparation for rapid changes in the employment environment, and the fourth session delved into the role of AI in enhancing the work environment.
The forum also featured working papers that covered a range of related topics, including the importance of mastering "AI engineering," the benefits of continuous education in adapting to changing environmental scenarios, and the use of AI to boost employee productivity.
Participants also deliberated on more effective utilization of AI and data science platforms, the significance of AI in achieving sustainable development, and the role of government institutions in developing future skills and fostering a renewable economy.
