Salalah: Dhofar municipality is developing a package of projects to build and pave internal and dual carriageways throughout Dhofar Governorate in 2025, with a total length of more than 300 kilometers and a cost of more than OMR36 million.
These efforts are part of the government's commitment to improving infrastructure and expanding the local road network.
The projects are part of the Governorates and Sustainable Cities Development Programme and the development projects undertaken by Dhofar Municipality, in accordance with Oman Vision 2040's national goals.
They want to increase the quality of services offered to citizens, residents, and visitors, as well as enable transit between various residential locations, which will promote urban and economic growth while also improving traffic safety.
The continuing and finished projects for the current year include the building and paving of internal roads in the wilayats of Salalah, Taqa, Mirbat, Sadah, Shaleem, and Al Hallaniyat Islands, as well as Thumrait, Maqshan, Al Mazyunah, Rakhyut, and Dhalkut, in compliance with a schedule and technical standards that take into account public safety needs and infrastructure sustainability.
Dr. Ahmed Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the Wilayat of Salalah is witnessing the building of internal roads totaling around 161 kilometers in residential districts in the wilayat's centre, plains, and mountain, at a cost of more than RO9 million. Furthermore, Sultan Qaboos Street has a 9-kilometer double carriageway project that is 22% complete and costs OMR16. 3 million.
He said that the municipality will carry out a project to pave 40 kilometers of internal routes in the Wilayat of Thumrait, as well as a new project to dual Thumrait Street for 4. 5 kilometers, including ornamental lighting works, with a total cost of more than RO 3 million.
He also stated that the municipality has begun work on a project to pave 32 kilometers of internal roads in the Wilayat of Taqa (in the plains and mountains) at a cost of around RO 1. 7 million, in addition to paving 20 kilometers of roads in the Wilayat of Mirbat at a cost of approximately RO 995,000, as well as the completion of the Mirbat Street dualization project this year, which spans 3. 5 kilometers and is estimated to cost RO 1. 96 million.
He said that the government has begun work on a project to build and pave 50 kilometers of internal roads across the wilayats of Sadah, Shaleem, Al Hallaniyat Islands, Rakhyut, Dhalkut, and Al Mazyunah, in addition to paving 15 kilometers of interior roads in the Wilayat of Maqshan.
Dr. Ahmed reaffirmed that these initiatives are part of the government's goal to execute service projects that have a direct influence on people's lives and contribute to achieving balanced urban development across the governorate, in line with national infrastructure development plans for the Sultanate of Oman's governorates.
It should be noted that Dhofar Municipality continues to carry out its duties in a participatory manner that takes community demands into account and improves the efficiency of municipal services and development initiatives across a variety of industries.
