Chennai: Dabur, a leading consumer goods company, is poised to invest a substantial sum of Rs 400 crore in Tamil Nadu, marking its inaugural venture into manufacturing within South India.
On Thursday, the company entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu, with the aim of establishing a cutting-edge manufacturing facility at the SIPCOT Food Park in Tindivanam, located in the Villupuram district.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Industry for Tamil Nadu, TRB Rajaa, through a social media post on the platform 'X' on the same day.
In his message, the Minister expressed his excitement about the new partnership, stating, "Welcome to Tamil Nadu, @DaburIndia! Indeed, welcome to South India! The investment by Dabur is valued at Rs 400 crore, with an initial phase investment of Rs 135 crore. The company has announced that this capital will be incrementally increased to Rs 400 crore over the next five years. The project is expected to create direct employment opportunities for around 250 individuals and indirectly support the creation of thousands of jobs in the surrounding area.
The Minister emphasized the anticipated positive impact of this facility on the local economy, especially for farmers in the nearby Delta region.
TRB Rajaa highlighted that the establishment of this facility will not only create jobs but also open new opportunities for farmers in the Delta region to sell their agricultural produce for processing at the new plant. He stated, "Dabur's investment of Rs 400 crore in this facility will generate 250 plus jobs. More importantly, it will provide new avenues for farmers in the nearby Delta region to market their agricultural produce for processing at this facility."
"Our Chief Minister, a Deltakaran himself, and myself, an MLA from the Delta, it is with great pleasure that I bring forward the right kind of Food Processing industrial linkages to the Delta region. Dabur is well-known for its home care, personal care, and juice products, and its decision to invest in Tamil Nadu underscores the state's robust industrial ecosystem and the availability of a skilled workforce," the Minister concluded in his post on 'X'.
"We extend our gratitude to the Government of Tamil Nadu, particularly the Department of Industries led by Hon'ble Minister Dr TRB Rajaa, the teams at Guidance Tamil Nadu, and SIPCOT for their unwavering support in making this project a reality. This investment will enable us to meet the growing demand for our products in South India and enhance our market presence in the region," said Mohit Malhotra, Chief Executive Officer of Dabur India.
Furthermore, the corporation has announced that the newly established facility, slated to be among Dabur's most contemporary and eco-conscious operations, will possess the capability to produce an extensive array of the company's offerings, specifically tailored to meet the burgeoning demand within the southern market.
