Muscat: The Sohar Court of Appeal has sentenced three Egyptian persons and a firm to prison, fines, and deportation for charges including human trafficking, cybercrime, and the dissemination of pornography.
The defendants, Mohamed Nabil ElSaid, Shorouk Ahmed Mohamed, and Karima Mohamed Saad, along with Eshraqat AlAsr Trading Company, were found guilty of human trafficking. The court sentenced the three people to seven years in prison and fined each OMR 10,000, while the firm was fined OMR 10,000.
The court also convicted the three people of utilizing information technology to aid human trafficking, sentencing them to ten years in jail and fining each OMR 20,000.
The first defendant and the business were also convicted of money laundering, with the first defendant receiving a five-year jail sentence and a fine of OMR 50,000, which includes OMR 10,000 to be paid, while the corporation was fined OMR 100,000, with OMR 10,000 to be paid.
Furthermore, the first and second defendants were found guilty of utilizing technology to disseminate obscene information and sentenced to six-month jail sentences and fines of OMR 500 apiece.
The third defendant was found guilty of failing to renew her residency and overstaying her visa, resulting in a fine of OMR 100 for each infraction.
The court ordered the offenders' permanent deportation after completing their sentences, as well as the seizure of monies, technological devices, and company licenses connected to the case.
