Campaign To Plant 10,000 Wild Trees Begins In Dhofar

The Environment Authority (EA) in Muscat has initiated a project to plant 10,000 wild trees in Dhofar Governorate.

The General Directorate of Environment in Dhofar Governorate has launched an initiative to plant 10,000 wild trees in collaboration with the Municipality of Dhofar and various public, private, and civil sector organizations. This forms part of a larger project aiming to plant and distribute 60,000 wild trees within the year.

Hatem bin Salem Al Mahri, the head of the Natural Reserves Department in the Directorate, stated that the campaign will involve planting 500 frankincense trees in Raysut, Salalah, and an additional 9,500 wild trees in Rakhyut, including species like Wild fig, aloe vera, and sidr.

Al Mahri further mentioned that the campaign aligns with the Environment Authority's plans for the year, focusing on preserving local plants, natural resources, and enhancing vegetation cover in natural and pastoral areas of Dhofar Governorate. This effort is in line with the national initiative to plant 10 million trees.

Dhofar Governorate boasts a rich diversity of natural plants, with approximately 750 species of wild plants found across its mountain peaks, valleys, and plains. The Environment Authority is actively working to protect and propagate these wild plants through tree nurseries, cultivation operations, seed dispersal, and the maintenance of old trees.
