Lisbon: In the aftermath of Manchester City's defeat to Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League (UCL), midfielder Bernardo Silva has candidly expressed his team's current state of despair.
Sporting CP emerged victorious with a remarkable 4-1 win over Manchester City at the Jose Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon. The match began with a goal from Phil Foden in the fourth minute, securing an early lead for the visiting team. However, Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres leveled the score in the 38th minute, just before halftime.
The second half witnessed Sporting CP's dominance, culminating in three more goals that sealed their victory. Maximiliano Araujo scored in the 46th minute, followed by Gyokeres' two goals in the 49th and 80th minutes.
Reflecting on the game, Silva acknowledged the team's current struggles, stating, "It's disheartening as we find ourselves in a challenging position. Our performance has been inconsistent, leading to missed opportunities and conceding goals too easily. We must improve rapidly to regain our momentum."
Silva also highlighted the critical need for the return of injured players to bolster the team's strength.
"The direction of the team feels uncertain at the moment. The absence of our injured players has been felt, especially tonight, where we were unable to perform at our best. Their return is essential for our success," he added.
Currently occupying the sixth position in the UCL standings with seven points, Manchester City's next match is against Brighton Albion in the Premier League.
