Muscat: In celebration of Bangladesh's Victory Day, the Bangladesh Social Club Oman hosted the 'Gulf Exchange Gold Cup Football Tournament 2024-2025'.
This year, the tournament saw participation from sixteen teams across various regions of Oman, held at the Muscat Club Stadium in Wadi Kabir.
In contrast to last year, which featured eight teams, this event marks the largest sporting occasion for the Bangladeshi community in Oman.
The tournament was officially opened on November 2 by Councillor Mohammad Rafiul Islam from the Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat, with Iftakher Chowdhury, CEO of Gulf Overseas Exchange, serving as the Guest of Honour.
Asadul Hoque, First Secretary of the Bangladesh Embassy, was the Chief Guest during the tournament's final match. Masud Rana, Operations Manager of the main sponsor Gulf Overseas Exchange, also attended the final as a special guest.
The event was chaired by Club Chairman Sirajul Haque CIP and hosted by Acting General Secretary Abdur Rahim.
Other notable attendees included Club Vice President Rezaul Karim CIP, Azimul Hoque Babul CIP, Treasurer Maulana Abdul Salam, Mohd. Shah Jahan, Publicity Secretary Hafez Mohammad Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, Mohsin Sarkar, Ajit Shil, Tawhid, Manik, and Jasim. The entire event was overseen by Sports Secretary Sirajul Hoque CIP.
The event was graced by notable figures from the community, including Nur Hossain Talukder, Mostafa Kamal, Shahabuddin CIP, Abdul Matin, officials from Gulf Exchange, and numerous esteemed community leaders and VIPs.
The tournament concluded on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Muscat Club Stadium, attracting thousands of enthusiastic football fans. In a thrilling final, Hamriya Football Ekados triumphed over Hajrat Shahjalal FC with a decisive goal in extra time, securing the championship title.
A significant number of Bangladeshi football supporters and their families were present to witness the matches.
The Club Chairman expressed heartfelt appreciation to all participants, officials, sponsors, and team members for their invaluable support and contributions, which led to the successful execution of this tournament.
