Australia's ODI World Cup Journey Begins With India Series

New Delhi: Tahlia McGrath, serving as Australia's stand-in captain, announced that the team's preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup will commence on Thursday with a three-match series against India on home soil.

Australia currently leads the ICC Women's Championship points table, holding a three-point advantage over third-placed India. McGrath, who is filling in for the injured regular captain Alyssa Healy, is determined to adopt an aggressive and positive style of play.

Recognizing India's capabilities, McGrath emphasized the necessity of keeping the overarching goal of the series in mind.

"We enjoy taking the initiative and playing positively, and this series provides us with more opportunities to do just that," McGrath stated, as reported by the ICC.

"We're eager to return to a format where we've had considerable success, and we're particularly excited to compete in our home conditions," she added.

"India boasts exceptional talent. Every match is fiercely contested with pivotal moments, and while we are at home, we anticipate strong support for India. Our goal is to secure the World Cup in 2025, and it all begins tomorrow," she remarked.

Ashleigh Gardner will act as vice-captain, while Alyssa Healy will be absent from the series due to injury. McGrath expressed her enthusiasm for leading the team throughout the series, highlighting the unique opportunities it presents.

"I'm thrilled. Every chance I have to lead a team is something I cherish and excel at," she noted. "This marks my first full series as captain. In the past, I've stepped in at the conclusion of a series or tournament," McGrath elaborated.

"I aim to bring my own perspective to the role. Each captain has a unique approach, and this is my first complete series. I'm genuinely excited about collaborating with Ash to implement some of my ideas, maximize the potential of this group, and strive for a series victory," she concluded.
