Muscat – The Winter Training Camp organized by Oman Sail at the Mussanah Sailing School has successfully concluded after two weeks dedicated to enhancing the skills of promising young sailors from across the country. Among the 49 participants, 15 have been selected to represent the Asyad Sailing Team for the year 2025. Following a series of outstanding performances during the camp, sailors Hassan Al Wahaibi, Tamim Al Balushi, Saoud Al Shaqsi, Firas Al Nabhani, Abdulrahman Al Hadi, Hassan Al Araimi, Firas Al Hashmi, Zakarya Al Ghafri, Sami Al Balushi, Hammad Al Mujaini, Redah Al Balushi, and Mohammad Al Balushi will compete in the ILCA 4 class. Additionally, Abdulatif Al Qasmi, Saleh Al Balushi, and Aws Al Busaidi will represent Oman in the ILCA 6 class at regional and international competitions.
The camp also served as a platform for Optimist coach Sultan Al Zadjali and ILCA coaches Munter Al Kindi and Ahmed Al Wahaibi to train the sailors, focusing on both tactical and technical sailing skills while evaluating their physical fitness.
Abdul Aziz Al Shidi, Acting Director of Sailing at Oman Sail, remarked, “This camp provided an excellent opportunity to evaluate the development of our young sailors across various classes, including Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, and 29er. We are preparing our teams for a range of competitions this year, and it is encouraging to see the sailors learn from one another and enhance their skills on the water, demonstrating their commitment. Training camps are fundamental to our training and development strategy, fostering an environment where sailors can concentrate on their sport and reach their full potential.”
He further stated, “This group of young sailors shows immense promise across all categories, which is a positive sign for the future of sailing in Oman. We wish the selected members of the Asyad Sailing Team the best of luck in the upcoming season. They have earned their spots and demonstrated remarkable determination to advance in their sailing journey.”
