Ahead of the second T20I in the three-match series at SuperSport Park on Friday against Pakistan, South Africa's right-arm fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the remaining two T20Is and the upcoming three-match ODI series due to a toe injury.
Nortje was unable to participate in the first T20I on Tuesday, December 10, after sustaining a contusion to his left big toe during a training session prior to the match. Follow-up scans conducted on Wednesday confirmed a fracture. South Africa secured an 11-run victory over Pakistan in the opening game.
Uncapped all-rounder Dayyaan Galiem has been selected as Nortje's replacement for the remaining T20Is.
Cricket South Africa issued a statement indicating that Nortje will seek advice from a specialist orthopaedic surgeon to assess his recovery timeline.
The remaining T20I matches are set for December 13 and 14, while the ODI series is scheduled from December 17 to 22.
