Muscat: On Sunday, Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council, welcomed Adel Abdulrahman Al Asoomi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, who is currently visiting the Sultanate of Oman on an official capacity.
During their meeting, Al Maawali emphasized the crucial role played by the Arab Parliament in strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and supporting collective Arab efforts.
He praised the Parliament's unwavering support for Arab causes in regional and international parliamentary gatherings.
Furthermore, Al Maawali highlighted Oman's eagerness to actively participate in the activities of the Arab Parliament. He emphasized that the existing cooperation between the Council of Oman and the Arab Parliament is driven by a shared commitment to promote joint Arab action and enhance the role of parliamentary diplomacy.
In response, Al Asoomi expressed his gratitude for Oman's balanced positions on Arab issues and its steadfast support for peaceful coexistence. He also commended Oman's consistent backing of the Palestinian cause in regional and international meetings.
Al Asoomi highly valued Oman's active engagement in the activities of the Arab Parliament. He specifically acknowledged the significant contributions made by the Shura Council in enhancing the performance of the Arab Parliament.
Additionally, Al Asoomi highlighted that Oman effectively achieves the objectives of parliamentary diplomacy through the Council of Oman's active participation in various events organized by the Arab Parliament. He particularly emphasized the prominent role played by the Shura Council in elevating the performance of the Arab Parliament.
Al Asoomi highlighted that the Shura practice in Oman is a result of the country's astute political strategy, which has had positive effects both domestically and internationally. He emphasized that the success of the Shura practice in Oman is evident in the advancements made in exercising its powers.
During the meeting, the two parties discussed methods to enhance cooperation between the Shura Council and the Arab Parliament, with the aim of serving mutual interests and fostering closer ties in addressing regional and international parliamentary issues.
Al Asoomi and his delegation were given a tour of the various departments of the Council of Oman. They observed the utilization of modern techniques, such as advanced digital applications for electronic voting on debated topics during council sessions.
They also took note of the architectural design of the Shura Council's building, which draws inspiration from Omani heritage. Additionally, they visited the Council of Oman's library and received an overview of its role in promoting legislative action and expanding general knowledge through its collection of reference books, encyclopedias, and electronic resources that are beneficial to researchers.
Representing Oman, the meeting was attended by Said Hamad Al Saadi and Tahir Mabkhout Al Junaibi, the two deputies to the Shura Council Chairman, as well as Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, the Secretary-General of the Shura Council, and Sariya Khalfan Al Hadi, a Member of the State Council, along with other members of the Shura Council.
Khadija Hajoobi, the deputy head of the Arab Parliament's Committee for Social, Educational and Cultural Affairs and Women's and Youth Affairs, attended the meeting, along with Arab Parliament members Shadya Khudhair Al Jamal and Ali Zaid Ahmed Shadli.
