The eighth edition of the annual Al Bashayer Camel Racing Festival is set to commence on Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Al Bashayer Camel Racing Field located in the Wilayat of Adam, within the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah. This six-day event will feature participants from the Sultanate of Oman as well as other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, emphasized that camel and horse racing are vital components of Omani cultural heritage and play a significant role in the national identity.
He noted that this heritage has received considerable attention from the government as part of the Oman Vision 2040 initiative.
Additionally, HH Sayyid Asaad announced the establishment of an equestrian racecourse in the Al Bashayer area, which will be part of the activities for the 2025 festival, marking its eighth annual occurrence. This initiative aims to position Al Bashayer as a central hub for both local and regional competitions.
He further highlighted that the project is designed to elevate the status of equestrian sports in Oman, aligning with Royal directives to safeguard Omani heritage and foster a comprehensive sports environment that encourages younger generations to embrace traditional customs and practices.
The Al Bashayer Camel Festival promotes a spirit of competition and camaraderie among Omani and other GCC communities, according to HH Sayyid Asaad. He remarked that the festival serves as a platform to showcase the talents of riders and camel owners while celebrating the shared cultural heritage.
